When Therapy Took Flight

"Moments like this reminds me that rehab is about more than exercises. It's about living, healing, and doing the things that matter most." Carrol

Carrol’s rehab session didn’t happen in the therapy gym—it happened with a kite string in her hands.

For years, Carrol stood on the sidelines watching her husband make and fly kites with their grandchildren, enjoying the joy it brought to their family. After losing him to COVID a few years ago, those memories carried even more meaning.

When a beautiful spring day arrived in southeast Iowa, the Consonus team at River Hills Village saw an opportunity to help make that wish a reality. With plenty of encouragement and a steady breeze, Carrol flew her very first kite:

During the activity, she worked on:

  • Improving balance while moving across uneven outdoor surfaces
  • Increasing strength and endurance while staying active outdoors
  • Building confidence through new experiences and activities

By the end of the day, she had done more than fly a kite. She honored a special memory, tried something new, and created a moment she’ll never forget. Sometimes therapy happens in the most unexpected ways.
