"The involvement of my husband made a difference by turning a difficult recovery into something we worked through together!" Edith

After a back fracture brought life on the farm to a standstill, she and her husband faced recovery together.

Life on the farm always kept Edith moving. There were always chores to finish, and work that never seemed to stop. Edith never thought twice about getting up, getting things done, and moving from one task to the next.

Then the back fracture happened, and everything slowed down. Simple things became hard. Pain was constant, and even small movements felt uncertain. Progress didn’t come quickly, and some days it felt like she was moving backward instead of forward.

Her husband became an important part of the recovery process. While Edith focused on healing, he made sure she never felt like she was doing it alone. He checked in often, attended therapy sessions, and through caregiver education, learned how to safely support her once she returned home. Instead of pushing through the pain, Edith learned to move differently, rebuild her strength, and take recovery one step at a time.

With the support from her husband and a determination to return to farm life, she was able to:

• Increase the amount of time she could stand and move comfortably
• Improve her strength and balance for everyday activities
• Reduce the amount of assistance she needed throughout the day

Together, they tackled recovery as a team. It didn’t happen all at once, but it happened through consistent effort, steady support, and a willingness to adjust along the way. Each of those steps brought her closer to the life she loves and couldn’t wait to get back to.
